Run a Mölkky tournament from a phone

Mölkky tournaments are usually teams of two to four on a row of pitches, and the job on the day is sending the next pairing to a free pitch. The bracket does that and scores every game with real Mölkky rules: exactly 50 to win, back to 25 for going over, and out after three misses in a row.

Every game uses Mölkky rules
  • A pin pad for every throw: Miss, or 1 to 12 (one pin scores its number, several score how many fell)
  • Exactly 50 wins; going over drops you back to 25, to 0, or the throw does not count
  • Three misses in a row: out (the last one standing wins), back to 0, or switched off
  • 2 to 8 players or two teams; tap any round on the sheet to fix it and everything after it re-scores

Pitches, not courts

Name your pitches and each game goes to whichever frees up first, with the pitch shown beside each pairing. Players get a push notification when they are up.

Tournament rules as switches

Turn on the IMO tournament rules for the whole event: a foul at 37 or more counts as going over, and a team knocked out by three misses scores 0 while the other is given 50, which keeps point-difference tiebreaks honest.

Teams of any size

Enter pairs with both names, and partners take turns throwing round by round, or enter named teams of three or four and score one throw per team per round.

Keep it on time

A game to 50 between two teams usually takes ten to twenty minutes. A quick game to 30 is a preset when the schedule is tight.

Questions

Mölkky tournament FAQ

How do I run a Mölkky tournament?

Create the event, pick single or double elimination, round robin or king of the hill, add the teams and name the pitches. Games are called to free pitches and winners advance as each game is scored on a phone.

Can bracket matches be best of three?

Each bracket match is one game to 50. Official events often play best of three games; for now, score a deciding series as separate games.

Can I run a Mölkky tournament for players on their own?

Yes. Head-to-head singles works in every bracket format. Games with three or more players each for themselves are scored one game at a time, outside a bracket.

Can I print a Mölkky bracket?

Yes. The printable bracket generator is free and needs no account.
