What the format actually does
The queue
Whoever wins keeps the court. The loser joins the back of the queue and the next challenger steps on. Score All keeps the order so nobody has to remember it.
Late arrivals
Add somebody mid-session and they join the back of the queue. Nothing is rebuilt and nothing is lost.
Ending it
There is no fixed end. Stop when the hall closes and the current king wins, or set a target number of defenses.
King of the hill FAQ
What is king of the court?
The same idea under a different name, common in pickleball and volleyball: the winning side stays, the losing side rotates off and waits its turn.
How is it different from a ladder?
A ladder is a standing ranking played over weeks. King of the hill is a single session with a live queue.
Can people join partway through?
Yes, that is the point. New players go to the back of the queue and play as soon as they reach the front.
