Run a bid whist tournament from a phone

Bid Whist tournaments are fixed partnerships, games to 7 or 21, and plenty of table talk. Score All runs the draw, assigns tables and scores every game with one set of rules, so a no trump hand or a Boston counts the same way at every table.

Every game uses bid whist rules
  • Pick the bid, uptown, downtown or no trump, and the books taken; the points follow
  • Games to 7 with a -7 floor, or to 21, with the scoring each one uses
  • Bostons that count double or win the game, and no trump that scores double
  • House rules: overtricks, defenders scoring the set, three sets and out

Tables and who is up

Name your tables and each match goes to the next free one. Players get a push notification saying where to sit and who they are playing.

Settle the rules once

No trump doubling, what a Boston is worth, the lowest bid, overtricks and the floor are set once for the event, which settles the arguments before the first deal.

Game length

A game to 7 is short, so a round robin or double elimination fits in an evening. The game to 21 takes longer; plan fewer rounds.

Questions

How do I run a bid whist tournament?

Create the event, choose a format, add the partnerships and start. Each game is scored on a phone at the table and the winners advance on their own.

Can a Boston win a tournament game outright?

Yes, if you set it that way for the event. A Boston can also count double, or score like any other hand.

Can I print a bid whist bracket?
