The 2-point score in Gaelic football

How does the 2-point score work in Gaelic football?

Since the 2025 rules, a point is worth two when it is kicked over the bar by a player with at least one foot on or outside the 40 m arc, a semicircle marked 40 m from the middle of the goal line. It counts from open play, from a free and from a solo and go, provided no teammate touches the ball on the way.

Some kicks from outside the arc still count one: a point from a 45 is worth a single point. Goals are unchanged at three.

A 2-pointer goes into the points column as two, so a team on 0-8 that kicks one moves to 0-10. Umpires signal it with an orange flag instead of the usual white one. Ladies football adopted the same arc in 2026.

In Score All the 2-point score is a switch, on by default, with its own 2-pt button that adds two to the points and the total. Turn it off to score a game under the pre-2025 rules.
