How washers scoring works
Washers is scored like cornhole: by cancellation, so the number that goes on the board after a round is a difference, not a total. The only real variations are what the cup is worth and whether you have to hit 21 exactly.
What a washer is worth
A washer in the cup (the hole in the middle of the box) is 3 points; some groups make it 5. A washer that stays inside the box is 1. Anything outside the box scores nothing.
Cancellation scoring
Both sides total their round, and only the difference goes to the side that scored more. A washer in the cup cancels a washer in the cup. If both sides score the same, the round is worth nothing.
Playing to 21
Most games go to 21. Exact 21 is a common house rule; the usual penalty is that the round does not count, though some groups drop you back to a lower score.
How many washers
Sets usually come with two colors of three washers, but some play with two or four. The count only changes how much a round can be worth.
Count-all variant
Some groups skip cancellation and let both sides keep what they scored. It makes games shorter and comebacks harder.
What Score All does with these rules
Cup and box
A washer in the cup (or hole) is worth 3 points, 5 in some houses. A washer that stays in the box is worth 1. Pick the cup value when you set the game up and the buttons follow.
Cancellation scoring
Both sides add up the round and only the difference scores, to the side that threw better. Tap No score when the round cancels out completely.
First to 21
Most games go to 21. Exact 21 is a common house rule: the bust setting decides whether an over-21 round does not count, drops you back to a set score, or takes the points off.
House rules
Count-all scoring, the number of washers each side throws, skunk at 11-0, a cap and handicaps are all switches when you create the game.
Washers scoring FAQ
How much is a washer in the hole worth?
Three points in most rules, five in some. A washer in the box is one.
Do washers cancel each other out?
Yes, with cancellation scoring: equal points cancel and only the difference scores.
Do you have to hit exactly 21 in washers?
Only by house rule. Decide before the first round.
How do you score washers?
Three for a washer in the cup (or five, by house rule), one in the box, and with cancellation scoring only the difference between the two sides counts each round.
Is washers scored like cornhole?
Yes. Both use cancellation scoring to 21, which is why the console works the same way: one net score per round.
Can I track a washers league or tournament?
Yes. Brackets and round robins assign the next game to the next free set of boxes.
