How dodgeball scoring works
Dodgeball has no single rulebook, but the scoring works much the same everywhere: you win games by getting every opponent out, and you win the match on games or points.
Winning a game
A player is out when hit by a thrown ball or when a throw they made is caught. A game ends when one team has no players left.
Catches
Catching a throw puts the thrower out, and in most rules lets one player from the catching team back in.
The match
Matches are best of a set number of games, first to a number of points, or timed, with the most points at the end winning.
Timed games and ties
Many leagues put a time limit on each game. When time runs out the team with more players left wins, or the game is a tie and both teams get the tie points.
Foam, cloth and rubber
Foam balls are the rec and school standard, cloth (no-sting) balls are used in many competitive events, and rubber balls are the playground classic. The ball changes the game, not the scoring.
What Score All does with these rules
Games, not throws
A game ends when every player on one team is out. Tap the team that won it and the game count moves on.
Best of N or timed
Play best of 5 (or 3, 7, 9), first to a number of points, or a timed match where the team with the most points when the clock runs out wins. End a timed match with the End button.
Points and ties
Each game won is worth 1 point by default, or 2 in leagues that also give a point for a tie. With timed games on, a Game tied button gives both teams the tie points.
Foam, cloth or rubber
Pick the ball and a preset sets the usual match format for it. Every setting can still be changed.
Dodgeball scoring FAQ
How many points is a dodgeball game worth?
Usually one. Some leagues give two for a win and one each for a tie, so timed matches reward winning outright.
How long is a dodgeball match?
It depends on the format: a best of five, or as many games as fit on a match clock.
How is dodgeball scored?
By games. A team wins a game when every opposing player is out, and the match goes to whoever wins the most games or points.
What happens when a dodgeball game runs out of time?
Leagues with timed games either give the game to the team with more players left, which you tap as a win, or call it a tie. Turn on timed games and the Game tied button hands out the tie points.
Is there a free dodgeball scoreboard app?
Yes. Score All keeps dodgeball score on any phone with a live scoreboard link, a TV display and a stream overlay.
